A Novel Approach to Inhibit Intergranular Corrosion in Ferritic Stainless Steel Welds Using High-Speed Laser Cladding

چکیده

Ferritic stainless steels are prone to localized corrosion phenomena such as pitting or intergranular corrosion, in particular when jointed by fusion welding processes. State-of-the-art techniques avoid mainly consist of alternating alloy concepts post-weld heat-treatments—all which associated with increased production costs. Hence, the present investigation seeks introduce a novel approach for inhibition ferritic steel welds through use high-speed laser cladding. Here, vulnerable sites along weld seam area coated chemically resistant alloy, whereby an overlap is achieved. Optical and electron microscopy well computer tomography tensile tests reveal that detrimental effects both stabilized unstabilized substantially reduced. In addition that, varying widths on identified studied. Moreover, resulting dilution precipiation at clad–sheet interface thoroughly characterized backscatter diffraction energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, interrelationships resistance can be drawn. As result this investigation, number enlarged, substantial cost-saving potentials manufacturing industry unlocked.

Strong Ferritic – Steel Welds

There are many steels which are stronger than 2000 MPa, with toughness values exceeding 100 MPa m and which have been in commercial service for many decades. Examples include the marageing alloys and carbide–free bainitic steels. By contrast, welding consumables with a proof strength in excess of 1000 MPa are few and far between. This is because whereas wrought steels can be thermomechanically ...

External corrosion resistance of steel and ferritic stainless steel exhaust systems

The exhaust system has a number of requirements to fulfil. The major ones are to reduce the noise level created by the engine, to channel the waste gases out the rear of the automobile, to minimize the reduction in engine performance, and to have an acceptable service life and cost1. The exhaust system is divided into two main parts, the hot end and the cold end. The components comprising the h...

Determination of susceptibility to intergranular corrosion and electrochemical reactivation behaviour of AISI 316L type stainless steel

In this study, double loop electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation (DLEPR) test was applied to determine the degree of sensitization in 316L type stainless steel, where obtained results were correlated with revealed microstructures after oxalic acid test and weight loss measurements of Streicher and Huey acid tests. Best agreement was provided with test parameters which are 1 M H2SO4 and 0...

An Investigation on Corrosion and Stress Corrosion Cracking initiation of a Ferritic Stainless Steel in a Tertiary Amine Solution

The present study focused on stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and corrosion behavior of ferritic stainless steel (grade 430) in activated methyl diethanolamine (aMDEA) solution, which is classified as a tertiary amine. In this regard, cyclic polarization and U-bend tests were performed in CO2 loaded aMDEA with different concentrations at 25 and 70 °C to observe corrosion behavior and ...

Influence of Laser Ablation on Stainless Steel Corrosion Behaviour

Laser ablation is the method for material removing from a surface using pulsed lasers. It is used for surface structuring, laser drilling or laser marking. A change of the corrosion behavior of a base material caused by thermal effects during laser processing is an important problem of this technology. Possibilities of surface modification of stainless steel using laser ablation are presented i...
